Since I was very young at the elbow of my father any time he was painting, I would be glued to his work, creating my own alongside him, trying to understand how to draw or paint a subject. Landscapes and Portraits were the primary source of inspiration for him so I did the same. I remember at the age of about eight, drawing lips again and again and feeling frustrated that they didn’t ‘work’. I have always endeavoured to achieve the best likeness of a person that I could. Perspective, light, texture, and colour were described in moments by my dad, who worked very quickly in the moment, so I learnt fast.
At college in Taunton and Cheltenham were I did my foundation and Degree I concentrated on Life-drawing (working from the naked human form)and Still-Life (working from a group of objects arranged on a surface)
Paintings and drawings are my way of expressing myself. Marks and smudges, lines and shadows are my language. I have always wanted to translate what I see onto a piece of paper or a canvas. The love of my own personal language constantly expands. Once you start, the permutations are endless and always exciting, increasing your vocabulary all the time.
